History
History
The Minority Career Fair was originally established to provide African American and other minority students additional opportunities to compete for jobs and internships. Its purpose was also to promote awareness about cooperative education experiences and to expose participants to company representatives from all over the country. Two professional staff members, Dr. Wandra Hill and Larry Campbell, with the assistance of students Cheryl Banks, Shirley Hudgins, and Andria Ross, coordinated the first annual Minority Career Fair. The event officially took place on April 14, 1982 in the University Student Center Ballroom and was hosted by the Minority Affairs Adhoc and the Union Activities Board’s (UAB) Black Students Board. The attendance at this one and a half day event was approximately 400 students and representatives from 32 corporate/business and industry companies.
MCF Mission
The Minority Career Fair provides ALL students with equal opportunities to discuss the availability of internships, co-ops, as well as career opportunities with various companies in attendance. Emphasis is placed on companies sending minority recruiters as well as NC State University alumni in the hopes of increasing the attendance of students from underrepresented populations.
